Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) accelerated its preparations for a possible Istanbul earthquake. An “Earthquake Hackathon” will be held in cooperation with the IMM and the Turkey Informatics Foundation (TBV). During the hackathon, solutions will be developed to overcome the communication problems that may occur during and after an earthquake.
The hackathon is expected to produce solutions for the communication problems that may arise between victims, their relatives and rescue teams during and after a possible earthquake. It will be held on 13-15 March 2020. Applications should be submitted at https://depremhackathonu.ibb.istanbul/. The deadline for application is 20 February 2020, and the number of participants is limited to 100 people. 15 selected teams will participate in the event and the teams will enter a 48-hour ‘development’ race. Contestants are expected to produce innovative solutions using new technologies such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, big data, blockchain, or internet of things. As a result of the hackathon, the first place will be award a 20,000 TL price, the second place will be awarded 15,000 TL and the third place will will 10,000 TL. In order for the contestants to win the prizes,their expected product and service ideas should be innovative, which have not been written before, and containing a new solution that can be transformed into a project.
