The Data Science for the Public good program, which was implemented in cooperation with Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Kodluyoruz and University of Virginia, was recently completed. (July 12, 2020)
Young people developed solutions for Istanbul with data
In the program, which was realized for the first time in Turkey with the organization of IMM Zemin Istanbul Technology Center, selected young people tried to solve the problems of Istanbul for 4 months using the data provided by IMM. They presented solutions with 7 projects in the areas of social distance, education, Istanbul intensity notification, water resources usage, traffic estimation and demand resolution.
The trainings were started with 33 people selected in the program, of which 509 people applied. In the first phase of Data Science Education, the students were given 30 hours of training and the infrastructure was provided. At the 70 hours second stage, the students were divided into groups and asked to produce projects that could solve the problems of Istanbul. IMM data was used to develop solutions. In this direction at the end of the second phase, 7 projects were developed.
Projects for Istanbul to be presented in Washington DC
In the coming days, the most successful of these 7 groups will attend the graduation ceremony at the University of Virginia and will represent Istanbul in international platforms by presenting projects at the big event that will be attended by institutions in Washington DC.
